I saw this article on Yahoo News today. It's funny but a little sad at the same time. It appears that a five year old male killer whale, Luna, has been trying to play with boats near Vancouver Island. Even the skippers whose boats have been damaged recognize it as friendly contact from the whale. It seems Luna has been around for awhile and has always been friendly. But now he's just getting too big.
There are a couple of groups working on trying to solve the problem. They are first trying to keep people away from the docks who keep trying to see and sometimes interfere with Luna. (One person even tried to brush Luna's teeth!)
The thing that makes me laugh (besides the teeth brushing bit) is that one of the groups trying to help Luna is an Indian group who believe that Luna is the reincarnation of their late chief. Apparently while the Indian group wants to help the whale, they have already foiled one attempt to direct Luna to a nearby pod. They said that they just weren't comfortable with the plan.
It all just seems funny to me. I'm sure they'll find a way to get him back out to a pod soon. This is not the first time something like this has happened. At least everyone is recognizing that Luna isn't a dangerous animal, just a powerful animal who wants to play. They have his and humans' best interest at heart.

Blessings on Luna and his friends.
If the Indian tribe doesn't want Luna to rejoin his pod, do they want to assume financial responsibility for their chief's friendly destruction?
Hope you have a whale of a good day.
