I went with low expectations...
but I have to say, I really liked it! But I really doubt anyone who hasn't read the books will like it. At least, not the first half.
Here are my two cents... if you are seeing the movie and don't want to be spoiled, don't read on. But if you've read the books, there's nothing to spoil, really. Unless you just don't want to hear how they portrayed anything until you see it yourself. So, read at your own risk. ;)
What I didn't like...
I thought the first parts were kind of rushed through and if someone hadn't read the books, it wouldn't make much sense. I mean, "the meadow scene" (which wasn't even in a meadow! Bummer, the place I saw in my head was so much prettier...) takes place with hardly anything leading up to it and almost all of the interactions they did have before it, were Edward being mad or rude or just stand off-ish. They didn't show very much positive interaction between them but then all of a sudden they're in love? In the books there is so much more that happens before that moment. If I hadn't read the books, at that point I would have totally been like, "Whatever!"
When I first saw pictures of the cast, I was just not buying many of the Cullens. They just didn't look right to me. And most especially Edward. After seeing the movie, I like most of the cast for the Cullens, but I still don't buy Edward though. So, I had to just put that out of my mind and forget that he's supposed to be gorgeous. I'm sorry, he just wasn't. But after seeing all the previews and pictures, I didn't expect him to be so I wasn't disappointed. It was just what I expected. :S Everyone else was fine though. I thought they directed Jasper a little oddly, I didn't get the impression he was like that all the time, but I totally think that was directing. I think the actor would be a good Jasper, actually. If he would act the way I saw him in my head. lol
What I did like...
I found the movie very entertaining and quite humorous. The whole audience was giggling and laughing throughout the whole movie. It helps to have read Midnight Sun because everytime you see a look on Edward's face, you know what he's thinking and it's just funny!
The second half of the movie is really, really good. I don't know how long the movie actually was, but it was close to two hours and it did not feel like it. That's a good sign. :) Ryan worked a really long week and was exhausted but even he felt like the movie was short and when I told him it was almost two hours, he was shocked!
Stephenie Meyer makes an appearance in the second cafe scene. The camera is right on her as she is sitting at the counter. That was cool. :)
To sum up...
I was pleasantly surprised! Before I saw the movie, I didn't know if I'd watch it more than once. Now I know that I will. I also didn't care if they make another one. But now, I really hope they do. :)

They look better out of the box.
Seeing as how I showed you what all my decorations look like in their boxes/tubs, I figure I might as well show you what they look like out of their boxes and tubs. :)
Right next to the front door in the entry:
The family room Christmas tree. This is the tree that we decorate together and it consists of all sorts of different ornaments. Homemade ornaments, souvenir ornaments from places we've been, gifts we've been given, etc. It's pretty much full of memories. :)
Fisher Price Nativity. The girls LOVE this nativity! Rori has played with it almost nonstop. She has a little step stool that has been parked right infront of it so she can reach all the way to the stable.
The top of the desk. I love the Old Village tea light houses! And I also love my new nativity advent calendar (sitting in the cubby on the right). I'm going to put little papers in each door with things to do that day to help us get in the Christmas spirit. Such as: Sing a Christmas Carol, Perform a random act of kindness for someone, etc.
I love all of these nativities! It's way too hard to pick a favorite. The one in the top left is made out of wood from the olive trees in Jerusalem. The one on the right under the Precious Moments nativity is from the Philippines. The one on the far left is a new tealight holder I got this year because Ryan really liked it too, so I knew he wouldn't mind. lol
I do have other decorations, not just nativities. Here's proof:

Four wheels are better than three.
Speaking of "being your own hero"...
A couple of weeks ago, Ryan changed my brakes. (I'm so glad he's handy with the vehicles; it saves us so much money!) Several days ago I started hearing a strange rotating type of noise. I told Ryan about it but he didn't have time to check it out right away. It seemed to get worse and more frequent and I finally reached the point yesterday where I decided I was NOT driving my car anymore until he figured out what was wrong. So last night, when he got home (at midnight! Poor guy.) we talked about it some more and he wondered outloud if it was my lugnuts coming loose. For some crazy reason, even though I know next to nothing about cars, that thought had come into my mind whenever I heard the noise. I would think, "I hope my tire isn't about to fall off," because that's almost what it sounded like was about to happen.
So this morning on his way out to work (at 6am! Again... poor guy.) he checked my lugnuts. Yep, one tire had loose lugnuts; one of the lugnuts was practically falling off. It happens to be the passenger side and I never go on that side, so I didn't notice at all. (Not that I inspect my lugnuts regularly. I probably wouldn't have noticed even if it was on the driver's tire. lol) He needed to get to work, so he told me how to tighten them and this morning before taking Cadi to school, I found the right socket, stuck it on the socket-handle-thingy (yes, that's the technical term for it... what is that, a rachet? A socket wrench? I don't know.), and I tightened my lugnuts. I even did it in the "star formation".
Problem solved. :)
Out with the old, in with the not-quite-as-old.
This week we said good-bye to our old family room couch. It was a nice couch but showed every little thing, even water drops. With a toddler, it was impossible to keep it looking decent. So, we invited some friends of ours who recently bought their first home to use it to help fill up all that new space. As our old couch went to it's new home, our not-quite-as-old couch in the front room, moved to it's new spot in our family room. This not-quite-as-old couch will be much better for our family room. It's microfiber, cleans easily, and doesn't show water spots. :)

Be Your Own Hero

Reality Check
In all the craziness trying to get ready to leave, I have been seriously neglecting my goal to run in the 10K next week. I think I only made it to the gym once or twice in the previous two weeks. But this week is kind of a crunch week, so even though I'm still busy, I've made sure to make it every morning (so far, lol). Yesterday I didn't have a lot of time and just did weights and walked briskly for a few minutes. Today I ran. For one hour. I didn't stop until the hour was over... but it took everything I had to make it to that hour! In fact, a lady that I see there sometimes and who I've tried to be friendly with when I see her, got on the treadmill next to mine near the end of my run. I wanted so badly to say "hi" or something but I didn't trust myself to open my mouth - I was sure I would fall flat on my face if I took any concentration away from just putting one foot infront of the other. lol
I only made it four miles today. Next week I'm supposed to go 6.2 miles! I know I can complete the 10K, I just have the sinking suspicion that it will be part run/part walk. And I really wanted to do it all as a run. I guess I still have time - maybe a miracle will take place and with working out everyday from now until then I'll build up the endurance to do the whole thing. I kinda doubt it though. lol But I'll give it my best from this point on. Wish me luck!

Tired, busy... but grateful. :)
We had a wonderful Stake Conference this weekend and there were so many things I wanted to jot down and share, but I'm just too exhausted to post them right now! lol I feel like life is nonstop these days, and they mostly are. It will be worth it once we are leaving at the end of the week and the Christmas projects, shopping, wrapping, and even decorating are done, the house clean, etc. As long as all those things happen, of course. ;)
We've been on the phone coordinating our visit down to Sacramento, and even starting to coordinate my mom's visit up to see the Festival of Nativities here the weekend after we get back. I'm getting very excited for our trip, to see everyone, for the holidays to truly begin, etc. I love this time of year!

Family Montage 2008
This is a good sign. Having these three montages completed means that I'm working on the not-so-secret project of our annual dvd. Having these three montages uploaded to YouTube means that I'm not just working on the dvd anymore - I've finished it! Woohoo!!! This is always such a huge project (which I love to do, but just takes so much time) and it is a huge relief to have it completed. I usually take about a week to make the dvd from start to finish, including making the montages. Now that I've finished them, I can turn my attention to my seriously neglected house and all the other items left on my "to do list". Yay! :)
Making Progress
I'm still swamped, but things are moving well in the right direction so I'm not quite as stressed. Let's hope that continues. ;)
I've been able to check a couple of things off of my "to do list". Of course, I've also added a few things to my list for next week. Such as: get the dog groomed, go to the credit union, pick up portraits from Sears, clean out the car, and go to the post office.
But since I'm finishing up my biggest project right now, I'm feeling confident that I will actually get most, if not all, of the rest of the "to do" items done, too. And that means you need to check back later for some cool posts. (I'm going to share a few parts of my not-so-secret project that should be finished today.)

Cadi's Choir Concert
About a week ago, Acadia had her first choir performance. There were several schools participating, including six grade schools. The grade schools combined their choirs into one large choir, while the middle and high schools performed individually. I came with camcorder and camera in tow, but the cards were stacked against me. As soon as the choir started to sing, the camcorder battery died. I grabbed the camera and started recording on it, which worked, but only until I ran out of space on the memory stick. So, what I have is part of one song. I know, impressive. I guess it's better than nothing... right?

Swamped
Thanksgiving is in two weeks. For many, the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is hectic, busy, and stressful. For me, that time period is a piece of cake - it's these two weeks that are hectic, busy, and stressful!
In one week and two days, we are leaving for Sacramento where we'll spend the entire Thanksgiving week. We are really looking forward to our visit; we love spending time with family and friends! And for me, if I've managed my time beforehand right, it's the end of my stressful season and the start of the holidays as a wonderful, enjoyable time.
Like I said, IF I've managed my time right. And that means, right now I am SWAMPED! Before we leave, I have to have all of our Christmas shopping done, secret (and not-so-secret) projects finished, gifts wrapped, house cleaned, bags packed, and nativities taken over to a friend to take to the Festival of the Nativities for me. Not to mention, I need to finish my visiting teaching (hopefully tomorrow afternoon), get my hair done (Monday morning), take the dog to the vet (tomorrow morning) and probably to a friend's house to watch while we're gone, put a vacation hold on our mail, and make sure I've done what I need to for Relief Society before I leave. All the while, I'm SUPPOSED to be getting ready for the 10K that is only TWO WEEKS away! I'm really starting to feel the crunch. For the last week, I've been "going" none stop. That is probably going to be the case until Friday night. I hope I get it all done!

Sister Slumber Party
Aurora LOVES to climb up into Acadia's loft bed, crawl under the covers, and "go nigh-nigh". Of course, it's just for play; she never has actually slept in Cadi's bed. But that sparked something. Acadia began to ask if Rori could sleep in her room. I didn't think that was a good idea since I didn't want Rori sleeping in the loft yet and I knew she wouldn't sleep quite as well in a playpen in Cadi's room as she would in her own crib. So, Cadi moved onto another, more doable idea. Could Cadi sleep in Rori's room? She kept asking on school nights so we kept saying no, but this weekend she asked again and we figured, hey, why not give it a try?
So, two nights ago, Cadi made a bed on Rori's bedroom floor and they had a slumber party together. They both went right to sleep and slept perfectly all night. When it was time to get up for church, Rori got up quietly, letting Rori sleep a little longer. It worked so well that when Cadi asked if she could do it again last night, we said yes. And once again, it worked out really well! We aren't about to have them do this every night, but now we know that if they want to sometimes, it works. :)

Talk Tidbit
It's not only up to the person preparing and presenting a talk to have the spirit with them; it is also up to us to have the spirit with us and to come to the meeting in faith, so we can hear what the Lord wants us to hear. If we miss a meeting and ask someone else what was said, we miss out on what the spirit might have told us during the meeting.

Ever since Proposition 8 passed on Tuesday, there have been activists targeting the church for it’s support for the proposition. They are accusing the church of taking away their win, calling Utah a “hate state”, and threatening to “destroy the Utah brand”.
Let's be clear. There hasn't been one single state in this country that has VOTED in support of gay marriages. NOT ONE. Never have the American people VOTED in favor of gay marriages. The rare instances when gay marriages have been made legal are when the courts have made that decision for the people. In the case of California, the people voted AGAINST gay marriages and the courts overturned that vote. This election was not to take away any "right" that had been passed by voters but to correct the change that had gone AGAINST what the voters had chosen.
It is also important to point out that gay couples in California DO have rights equivalent to marriage in nearly every respect and Proposition 8 has not changed any of that.
In the campaign against Proposition 8, there was more than 43 MILLION DOLLARS raised. The campaign against proposition 8 raised far more money than the campaign in favor of it (less than 30 million dollars). They still lost because the majority of Californians (along with every other state in this country) still feel that marriage should be defined as being between a man and a woman. The people had a chance to say what they wanted. They did. Twice.
But those who support gay marriages are now targeting the church because of the support it gave in favor of Proposition 8. Are you kidding me?
Here is a quote from John Aravosis, who is a gay rights activist calling for a boycott of Utah, "The main focus is going to be going after the Utah brand," he said. "At this point, honestly, we're going to destroy the Utah brand. It is a hate state."
And another quote from him, "At this point, the Californians are the victims and the Mormons are the persecutors," he said. "We had won this until they swept in. ... We need to send a message to Utah that they need to stop trying to inflict their way of life on every other state."
Oh, you mean the "every other state" that has also voted against legalizing gay marriages? And I’m confused… California voters are the ones who passed Proposition 8… and yet Utah is being targeted? Both sides campaigned; both sides were well funded (again, those against the proposition raised more than $10 million more than those where were in favor of it). This accusing the Mormons of "sweeping in" and stealing their victory is nothing but poor sports complaining because they didn't get their way! Are you telling me that only gay supporters in the state of California campaigned? I think not. In fact, Aravosis himself lives in Washington D.C. There was support coming from all over the country, just as those who were in support of the proposition came from all over the country.
I realize gay activists are sorely disappointed but to attack the church for standing up for what it believes in is wrong. News flash: The LDS church is not the only church against legalizing gay marriages. News flash: The majority of voters in California are not Mormon. Take a hint, you lost because what you want is NOT what the voters want.
I've heard many times that there would come a time when each person would need to make a choice as to what side of the fence they sit on. There would come a day when you couldn't just sit on the fence or play it both ways. There would come a day when you would either be on the Lord's side, or not. I truly believe that day has come. So you want to "destroy the Utah brand"... because they are the haters? Standing up and voting for what you believe in does not make you a hater, however, attacking people for what they believe in does. I really hope that this just ends up being all talk but if in fact it continues to escalate I imagine we will all have to make our choice.

I stand on the Lord's side. I stand for truth and righteousness. I will not deny what I know to be true and right and I will not give in to threats or attacks. GOD has said that marriage is between a man and a woman. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God’s true church on the earth today. I have full confidence that the church can handle any amount of protesting, boycotting, threatening, etc. It has before and it will again. But if it’s the people that are under attack now, if it’s the members of the church who are being targeted, I am proud to proclaim that I am one of them!

Bella's Lullaby
First of all - Yay to me for posting my 1,000th post! :)
But back to said post...
For the last several months, I have had a very specific idea of what I thought Bella's Lullaby should sound like (in Twilight). In case you were wondering, I thought "River Flows in You" would be perfect! (Even though I knew they weren't using an already composed piece of music, so I knew it wouldn't be used for it.) However, yesterday the Twilight Soundtrack came out and we finally got to hear what the real Bella's Lullaby will be. And I like it! It wasn't what I imagined but I really, really like it! And I'm now adding the sheet music to my wish list. ;)
But back to said post...

I love...
that Acadia is learning to play "I Am a Child of God" on the piano and that whenever she plays it, Rori sings along. :)
Things that make you go, Hmmmm.
You really must listen to this. It's a short audio from a radio talk show. They asked people on the streets who they supported, Obama or McCain and then asked why...
Yeah, that doesn't make me feel any better about how things went down yesterday. Isn't it nice to know that during such a historical and record-breaking election, so many of those voters really did their research and voted for the candidate that best represented their views? Yeah.
I think that is why I'm so disappointed in the results yesterday. Not that Barack Obama was elected (okay... yeah, I am disappointed about that - I really just don't agree with his ideas), and certainly not that we elected a black man to be our president (I actually think that part is really cool). I'm frustrated that many of the voters who supported Obama did it not even knowing where he stood on the issues. That is so scary to me. Don't people care about who they choose to lead us? It seems mighty dangerous to choose a person just because he is young, hip, attractive, nicely dressed, and yes, black. Call me crazy, but I just don't think those are good enough reasons to elect someone to be our president.
I don't think that every Obama supporter voted ignorantly. I know many of the voters really did do their research and do believe in what he says and I totally respect that. It's just the voters who DIDN'T, that I really have a problem with. And I have to wonder, exactly how many of the Obama voters fall into that category? If everyone had truly voted based on policies, who would be our President-elect today? It's just a tad frustrating. ;)

And now those results are in, too.
I am not surprised that Obama has won the presidency but I was hoping it would have been a little closer of a race. The minute the clock passed 8pm, Pacific Coast Time, Obama was announced the winner. Well, that was fast. lol
I didn't vote for him. But come January, he'll be my president and I will respect and support that. I think it is very cool that we as a nation have elected a black man to be our president. I don't think race should be a reason to vote for someone; I don't think it should be a reason not to vote for someone either. Race shouldn't matter at all. But the fact that Obama is going to be the first black president of our country is historic and worth recognizing.
I will be interested in seeing how this presidency goes. I don't agree with all of Obama's ideas and so I'm interested in seeing how things end up working out. I do pray for our nation's leaders, and Obama will now be included in those prayers. I pray that our leaders will be led to make the right decisions for our country, for our safety, and for our future.

No, not those results yet. I'm talking about the winners of today's Dinner Election. And those winners are...
We had Zesty Grilled Chops, rice, and corn on the cob. It was very delicious and we all loved the chops! In fact, we rated it 4.5 out of 5 possible stars and plan on adding it to our favorites. :)

I voted today - Twice!
This morning, after dropping Acadia off at school and before hitting the gym, Rori and stopped by one of the ballot drop boxes to turn in our vote. (I had Ryan's ballot to drop off, too.) I even got my "I voted" sticker. :)
But before that even, Ryan, Acadia, and I each voted in our family election today.
I had a couple of requests to share the candidates and their statements, so I decided to scan in and post the pamphlet that I made for our dinner election. The front looked like this:
The inside had these candidates (copy and pasting really messed with the spacing and settings a bit, but you at least get the idea):

FHE - Election Edition
I am so excited for our FHE tonight and I want to share it with you so you can copy it if you want. (In all fairness, it isn't my original idea. I have stolen it from... somewhere - I can't remember where I saw it!) It may be too late for you to do it tonight, but it would be fun to do tomorrow, too. :)
We are going to have an election! Our first ever Roser Family Dinner Election. I have prepared a "Voters' Pamphlet" for each person in our family, listing the candidates for main dish, side dish, and vegetable dish. Each "candidate" has a description and a statement to help the voter better understand what a vote for that item would mean. After reviewing our pamphlets, we will hold our primary election tonight. Complete with voter ballots. The top two candidates in each category will then be placed on a new ballot for our dinner election tomorrow. In the morning, before leaving for work or school, we will all vote on the candidates. During the day, I will tally the votes and my family will learn what dishes have won our election when we have our elected dinner tomorrow night.
I am seriously, so excited about this! lol
We have been learning the Articles of Faith this year and tonight we will also discuss the Twelfth Article of Faith, "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law." We'll talk briefly about what this means and start learning to memorize it. In fact, we'll probably start the FHE with the 12th Article of Faith and do the election part afterwards.
With the elections tomorrow, I think it will be fun to have an election of our own that Cadi can participate in. Maybe it will become a new tradition for our family; we'll see how well the family likes it. ;)

Worth Every Penny
Yesterday we went to Sears to take our family portraits. Finally. (I'm a little late - we usually try to do them during the summer.) I love, love, LOVE going to Sears for our portraits. They do a phenomenal job - every stinkin' time! It's wonderful; we are always thrilled with the results. Of course, since they are all so wonderful, it's also expensive because I can never decide what to get and end up buying twice as much as I originally planned! lol

Rori was being a bit of a pill; she cooperated, kinda. She would reluctantly sit where she was told, and then as soon as the photographer took the pic, she would jump up, clap, and say, "Yay!!!" Then we'd have to sit her back down and repose her again. lol They were very patient with her though, and they still managed to get some really cute shots of her - some very candid. ;)

Trick or Treat... Take Two
Halloween: It's a kid's dream come true. lol You get to dress up, pretend to be whoever you want, and then go around asking everyone you see for candy. And they give it to you!
Last night, Rori and Cadi went trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. Ryan took them out with a friend of his and his kids. I stayed home to pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters who came here. Ryan and the kids didn't stay out terribly long since Rori was getting tired and they had already collected quite a bit of candy the night before.
It's fun to stay home and pass out candy. I like seeing all the cute kids in their costumes. The weather was cool but not cold - and not raining *whew* - so all the princesses and kitty cats, and Iron Men were free to show off their outfits. :) For the first time ever, I didn't have any teenagers come around! Well, I had a couple who were dressed up and taking their little siblings out - which I am totally supportive of, but no teens by themselves. I was pretty shocked. They must have figured out that just up the hill on our street, the houses give out full size candy bars - they probably don't waste their time on our end of the block anymore. lol Fine by me. I am all for teens who take thier siblings out and especially if they dress up too, but if they're just going around "dressed as themselves", holding their pillowcase out for free candy without younger kids in tow, I'm just not impressed. :S
Ryan took the camera with them when they went out but he only took a couple of pics. The first one must have been when they were still on their way up the hill. Not only was it still light out, but they were obviously moving pretty quickly, motivated to get up the hill and knock on some doors. lol
Last night, Rori and Cadi went trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. Ryan took them out with a friend of his and his kids. I stayed home to pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters who came here. Ryan and the kids didn't stay out terribly long since Rori was getting tired and they had already collected quite a bit of candy the night before.
It's fun to stay home and pass out candy. I like seeing all the cute kids in their costumes. The weather was cool but not cold - and not raining *whew* - so all the princesses and kitty cats, and Iron Men were free to show off their outfits. :) For the first time ever, I didn't have any teenagers come around! Well, I had a couple who were dressed up and taking their little siblings out - which I am totally supportive of, but no teens by themselves. I was pretty shocked. They must have figured out that just up the hill on our street, the houses give out full size candy bars - they probably don't waste their time on our end of the block anymore. lol Fine by me. I am all for teens who take thier siblings out and especially if they dress up too, but if they're just going around "dressed as themselves", holding their pillowcase out for free candy without younger kids in tow, I'm just not impressed. :S
Ryan took the camera with them when they went out but he only took a couple of pics. The first one must have been when they were still on their way up the hill. Not only was it still light out, but they were obviously moving pretty quickly, motivated to get up the hill and knock on some doors. lol
