Kirtland

I made it to Gospel Doctrine for the first time this year! Earlier we were in a family relations class, then we always had an investigator or less-active person with us so we went to Gospel Principles instead.

The lesson was awesome, but how could it not be? Afterall, it was only Sister W., who is one of the most spiritual and neatest ladies I know. She's a great scriptorian and a seminary teacher. The kids LOVE her class!

Anyhow, the lesson was on the building of the Kirtland Temple. The whole time we focused on how they might have felt. First being commanded, then delaying and getting chastized, then being obedient, sacrificing, laboring, guarding, and finally finishing. The anticipation they must have felt when it was time to be dedicated. The Dedicatory Prayer, the hope that it would be accepted. The amazing way that the Lord told them it was accepted.

We sang "The Spirit of God", imagining we were there, what those words must have meant to them, what do they mean to us? How does thinking of all this make us feel? How do we feel about our temple? What are we willing to sacrifice in order to be obedient? It was a terrific lesson and the spirit was strong.

So, now I wish even more that we could do a church history tour sooner rather than later! But that's okay. Someday...
