Cadi: I know, that's why I told you. I wanted to hear you say 'no' to football. It's every girl's dream to not have her mom so intense in football. Mom you are too in love with football!

Do your friends lift you up or drag you down?
Today the YW went ice skating and it was lots of fun! I let Cadi come because it had been so long since she had been ice skating and she really likes going. It was really fun to watch the girls skate, they were so sweet and kind, helping each other. Here are some fun pics (The lighting was awful, so the quality isn't so great, sorry about that!)...

"It's no bad thing to celebrate a simple life." - Bilbo Baggins
Today is J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday! Of course, he's dead... but it's still his birthday! ;) lol
And to celebrate, I'm going to post exciting Tolkien news (Which really is old news now because it was announced a couple of weeks ago but I was too busy to post it back then.^^) ...
Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema, along with MGM Studios, are finally going to be making The Hobbit! They have been in negotiations for years about the rights to the movie and they just last month came to an agreement! There will be two movies, filmed back to back (the same way that The Lord of the Rings was) and then released one year apart. The first movie will be out in 2010 and the second in 2011!
We are SO EXCITED! Just recently, Acadia "read" The Hobbit. (She didn't really read it, she listened to the unabridged book on tape during a couple of road trips. But close enough, she listened to it all.) She had asked if there was a movie she could watch now, and while we had to tell her "not yet" at that point, now we can say, "There will be!"
I'd say that's a great birthday gift to all of us! :D

2007, The Condensed Version
I think I did this last year, perhaps it was the year before... but the idea is to repost the first sentence of each month of the past year. Now, it's not really a review of the year but it's still kinda fun... so here goes!
January: It's two days late... but I'm sharing anyway.
February: Quit all the whining and complaining... (uh, okay so no one has whined or complained - or even mentioned it... lol).
March: I compile family video each year to share with our family since we live so far away and they miss out on seeing our family grow.
April: It's funny how General Conference always seemed SO LONG when I was little, but now it feels way too short!
May: I'm fairly sure that everyone who reads my blog knows this already but just to be clear...I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
June: Crappy Day, literally.
July: I can hardly believe that in less than one month Aurora will be a year old!
August: When we were younger, we had "Reading Club".
September: Today Aurora got it into her head that we should remodel our bathroom.
October: Rori has a cold.
November: I sure do love this kid but man, does she make me work!
December: I really have been wanting to blog about our trip and all the fun stuff going on right now but it has been CRAZY!

Happy New Year!
I don't know about you, but I'm really excited for 2008!
I do want to set goals and just haven't really sat down and written them out yet, so I think I'll do that here and now.
I really need to get back on the healthy wagon! I have been awful the last few months! So, today is a new day and it starts now! I'm going to exercise at least 5 times a week (at least 30 minutes of cardio each day). I'm going to drink 8 glasses of water every day. And I'm going to get back to planning and making healthy meals for my family each night.
While I'd like to physically get smaller, spiritually I want to GROW! My goals are to have personal prayers morning and night, read my scriptures daily, and read the Ensign every month, cover to cover. I also want to read the lessons for RS from the new Joseph Smith manual, even though I'm not attending RS right now.
Those are all things I should be doing anyway and really have no excuse for not being consistent with them already. (Isn't that usually the case?) I really do have other goals too, but I think I need to really focus on these first. Then when I have made these habits again, I can move on to more.

Ring Out the Old, Ring In the New
Perhaps appropriately so, today we attended a funeral.
The Candy Man was a sweet , older member of our ward that we had become pretty good friends with. One of his daughters and one of his granddaughters, are two of my good friends. He would call our house quiet regularly to ask Ryan a computer question. Ryan would go to his house and spend hours with him, partly helping with the computer, partly working on genealogy work, and mostly visiting. The Candy Man got his name because he would bring candy to church every week. The children would see him and run to greet him, knowing they would get a treat from him. He loved it! You could see it in his face. He would smile and his eyes would just light up!
At the funeral, I learned a few new things about him. I learned that he used to be a jockey! I wish I had known that before, I bet Cadi would have loved to hear him tell her about his days riding horses.
One of my first memories of The Candy Man, took place in Walmart. We had lived here about a year and I knew who he was, he had already started calling Ryan for computer help. ;) I was shopping in the local Walmart one day and I saw him talking to some people in the aisle. I knew what he was doing because by this time, I was pretty good friends with his daughter and I had heard all about his trips to the Walmart. It was his favorite thing to do - he'd go as often as he could get away with and stay as long as he could. He didn't need to buy anything, he just wanted to go talk to people. So he'd go and walk around, talking to strangers and asking them if they knew about the church. He would teach them about the Gospel and invite them to come to church. Well, I figured I was "safe" since I belonged to his ward and all, but apparently he didn't recognize me. He stopped me and asked if I went to church. I said, "Brother H., I am in your ward!" He didn't believe me at first! I finally convinced him and he quickly went looking for another person to share the gospel with.
The Candy Man would bear his testimony in church often. He often talked about how many people he would try to share the gospel with and how some even promised to come to church, but how disappointed he was that so far, he hadn't ever seen one person he had talked to come to our meetings. But he never gave up, he kept going out and talking to people and did as much as he could to share the gospel with them. I learned today that he carried several Book of Mormons with him, in different languages even, just so he would be prepared if anyone agreed to take one.
The Candy Man has had troubles with his health for years, far longer than we've known him. But he was strong - and a fighter - and everytime we thought he was near the end, he'd bounce back and pull through! However, a couple of weeks ago we learned that this really was going to be the end this time. We were so sad to hear this! But we knew that he was ready to go home. We wanted to let him know we were thinking of him and loved him, so we stopped by a few days before Christmas. The family was taking pictures of all his visitors and taping them to the wall next to his bed, so that even when he was awake, he could see all the people who loved and cared about him. Cadi also drew him a picture to hang on the wall.
He was resting most of the time, but Ryan did get to have a short little visit with him.
We are so glad we took that opportunity before it was too late!!! The Candy Man passed away the morning after Christmas, at home and with his family surrounding him. Just the way he wanted. :) We will always remember our friend, The Candy Man, and I hope we will always remember the lessons he taught us.
Tonight we are celebrating a New Year though. New possibilities, new experiences. We're going to go over to our friends' house with a few other families and we're looking forward to celebrating with them! It's time to make new goals and look ahead to all that 2008 has in store for us! I hope that you all have a very Happy and Safe New Year!

Perfection
There really isn't anything I have to say. I'll just let the records speak for themselves! Undefeated, a perfect regular season... most points scored in a season... Brady with the most touchdown passes in a season... Moss with the most touchdown receptions in a season... This IS perfection!
