Today when Acadia gets home she is going to find herself the next contestant on "Too Many Toys!" (Come on down!!!)
We really need to weed out some of the junk in her playroom. It is a disaster since she has so much stuff! And half of it never gets played with. So today we came up with the plan to use bribery - but in a fun way.
For every 10 toys she choose to get rid of, she will earn $10 in play money. At the end of the "purging" she can use that play money to "buy" extra fun treats (like playing at Chuck E. Cheese, Renting a movie, Having a friend sleep over, et.). So the more she is willing to get rid of, the more fun stuff she can do... I think it will work!
It is pretty bad when your child has two rooms (a bedroom and a playroom) and STILL has so many toys that she can't keep them clean! In her defense - they are teeny, tiny rooms. And also in her defense, the bedroom is never as bad as the playroom. Infact, in general, toys aren't really in the bedroom much. That is supposed to be her special, quiet space.

It worked! She has already gotten rid of 120 things! She even got rid of her Kitchen Center! Which is great because it took up so much room. There is still a little more work to do in there, but now she's taking a break for dinner.

I had decided on the prices ahead of time. Anything from $10 to $40. She wanted to know how much it would take to do everything - we added it up and it was $120. So that became her goal. She was excited about it! Now I told her if she earns more $ she can get more than one of some of the prizes. She's considering it... lol

It's a good time of year to be weeding out toys. Most of those Cadi is giving up are quite nice enough to pass on to less fortunate children, maybe for Christmas, and thrill them to pieces. I am glad that your plan is working out so well very eveyone. Hugs to all!

When I told her about the "game", she was excited - then paused and said, "With one condition... The toys have to go to Katrina victims!"
She has been very aware of the hurricane victims since their school did a fundraiser earlier this year. She donated her own coins to that fundraiser and made sure we had donated something too (we donated through the church humanitarian funds though).
I was very happy with her idea so that's what we're gonna do!
